Uber driver killed in airport road accident

A 26-year-old Uber driver, Hriday Hossain, died after a motorcycle struck him near the cargo gate of Dhaka Airport on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred around 8:30 am when Hriday was crossing the road in front of the airport cargo gate. He sustained serious injuries and was initially taken to Kurmitola General Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. He was pronounced dead at around 1:30 pm.

Eyewitness Md Shaukat Ali, who brought Hriday to hospital, said, “He was crossing the road near the cargo gate when a fast-moving motorcycle hit him, causing him to fall onto the road and suffer severe injuries. We immediately took him to Kurmitola Hospital and then to Dhaka Medical College for treatment.”

Hriday’s younger brother, Md Rajib Hossain, said the family hails from Ghoshgaon village in Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh district. Their father is Saidul Islam, and the family currently lives in Noorhazi Lane, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.

Hriday, who worked as an Uber driver, had left home in his private car earlier in the morning. Rajib added that he rushed to Dhaka Medical College after receiving news of the accident and found his brother in critical condition.

Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the death. He said Hriday’s body is now in the hospital morgue and that the matter has been reported to the Airport Police Station.
