A man who was shot by miscreants in Shahidnagar, Lalbagh has died after undergoing treatment for a week at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The deceased, Rafi Hossain, 26, died at the hospital’s intensive care unit on Wednesday morning.
Rafi had been critically injured after being shot around 8:00pm on 14 May at Beribadh in Shahidnagar lane No 3, according to family members. His brother-in-law, Abdus Sattar Farazi, said Rafi sustained a bullet wound to the right side of his chest and had remained in critical condition since the attack.
He was admitted to the ICU on the day of the incident and remained there for a week before succumbing to his injuries.
Rafi was the son of Md Taizuddin and lived with his family in Shahidnagar lane No 2. His mother, Momona Begum, said he ran an online T-shirt printing business.
He is survived by his wife and his one-month-old daughter, Meherja.
According to witness Md Sajib, several local youths approached him on the day of the incident and asked whether he knew a person named Shahin. After he replied negatively, they allegedly assaulted him.
Sajib said he later went to Rafi’s house and brought him to the scene. As they approached the group, a man identified as Imon allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot Rafi.
He said the group also included Rezaul, Mintu, Shahabuddin and eight to nine others.
Dhaka Medical Police Camp Inspector Md Faruk said the body has been kept at the morgue for post-mortem examination.
