Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury on Thursday visited a carton manufacturing factory in Demra that was gutted in a fire, and ordered the formation of a high-level investigation committee to determine the cause of the blaze.
The fire broke out at Emu Rotoflex in Amulia Model Town, Demra, around noon on Thursday. Upon receiving the news, the minister rushed to the spot.
Arriving at the scene, the minister toured various parts of the fire-damaged factory and assessed the extent of the losses. He ordered the immediate formation of a probe committee to uncover the actual cause of the incident.
“The safety of workers must be the top priority in every workplace. A thorough investigation will be conducted, and those responsible for any negligence will be held accountable,” the minister said during his inspection.
Two workers injured in the fire were rescued and taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for urgent treatment. One of them was given first aid and released, while the other was admitted to the hospital.
The minister assured that proper medical treatment for the injured would be ensured.
Following the minister’s directive, the Dhaka district administration formed a six-member investigation committee headed by Additional District Magistrate Md Shamim Hussain. The committee has been instructed to submit its report at the earliest.
During his inspection, the minister also emphasised strengthening the factory’s safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
