Jamaat-e-Islami has described two former advisers of the interim government as the “new Mir Jafars of Bengal”, accusing them of engineering the 13th national parliamentary elections.
The allegation was made by Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Md Taher while addressing a press briefing at the party’s central office in Maghbazar on Thursday, the party said in a statement.
He said the party had specific complaints regarding the conduct of polls in 53 constituencies and claimed remarks made by former adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan had exposed evidence of election engineering by the previous administration.
“These former advisers have thwarted the nation’s aspiration for a fair election,” he said, demanding that the allegations be investigated through legal channels.
He also called on the interim government to provide a clear explanation to the nation over the claims of election manipulation.
During the briefing, the Jamaat leader alleged that Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman was the “mastermind of the London conspiracy” and accused him of conspiring from within the previous administration to facilitate the current government’s rise to power.
The Jamaat leader said although voters supported reforms in the referendum, the government was now deviating from that mandate and acting against public expectations.
He also described the deteriorating law and order situation across the country as a clear failure of the administration.
On the post of deputy speaker, he said Jamaat-e-Islami would consider the matter only if a written proposal is received from the government in line with the Constitution.
However, he added that the government must first take initiatives to implement the “July Sanad”.
