Relatives of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia are making arrangements to fly her to London for further medical care, contingent on whether or not “her physical condition improves.”

This was revealed by Mahdi Amin, adviser to the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, in a Facebook post on Saturday.

He noted that they were working on securing a specially equipped air ambulance with contemporary life-support systems for her transportation.

The acting chairperson’s adviser further stated that Tarique Rahman and his wife have already been in touch with the doctors and the hospital who provided her medical treatment during her previous stay in London to discuss the continuation of her treatment.

Earlier on Saturday, President of Nagorik Oikya, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, met with Khaleda at Evercare after which he mentioned that, while there were plans to send the BNP chairperson overseas for treatment, she currently lacks the physical fortitude to withstand air travel.

Manna said, “She is not stable enough to be taken abroad right now. However, her doctors believe that she might be able to soon.”

He also added that, if London proved to be too arduous for Khaleda Zia, other feasible destinations were being considered for her treatment.

Last Sunday, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was moved to Evercare Hospital after her medical team identified infections in her heart and lungs, subsequently diagnosed with pneumonia presently undergoing care in the hospital’s Coronary Care Unit (CCU).

The 80-year-old former prime minister has been grappling with numerous chronic ailments for some time, with her medical team revealing that her renal functions are currently impaired.
