HYBE and Geffen Records’ global girl group KATSEYE have set a new milestone in the US music market, becoming the first girl group in more than two decades to keep an album on the Billboard 200 for more than a year.
According to the latest Billboard charts, KATSEYE’s second EP, BEAUTIFUL CHAOS, remained on the Billboard 200 for a 53rd consecutive week. The EP, released in June last year, reached the one-year milestone on the 4 July chart and now sits at No. 128 on the latest chart dated 11 July, underlining its sustained popularity.
Billboard noted that it has been 21 years since a girl group’s album spent more than a year on the chart. The previous benchmark was set by the Pussycat Dolls’ debut album PCD, which was released in 2005. The achievement positions KATSEYE among the most successful girl groups in the US pop market.
The group has also made a strong impact on Billboard’s Hot 100, placing five songs on the chart. Gabriela reached a peak of No. 21, followed by PINKY UP at No. 28, Internet Girl at No. 29 and Gnarly at No. 82.
Last month, KATSEYE teamed up with fellow HYBE girl groups LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT for the surprise collaboration single ICONIC BY MISTAKE. The track debuted at No. 38 on the Hot 100, marking the highest-charting K-pop girl group song on the chart this year.
The group’s momentum has extended beyond the charts. Earlier this year, KATSEYE received two nominations at the 68th Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. In May, they won three trophies at the American Music Awards, including New Artist of the Year.
KATSEYE have also strengthened their global reputation through live performances at major international festivals, including Lollapalooza Chicago, Lollapalooza Lima, Coachella and Governors Ball. Their first North American and European tour, THE WILDWORLD TOUR, will begin in September and cover 27 cities across 10 countries with 31 performances. According to Billboard, all tickets sold out within 48 hours of going on sale.
The group’s success also reflects HYBE chairman Bang Si-hyuk’s long-term “multi-home, multi-genre” strategy. Formed through K-pop’s training system and featuring members from diverse cultural backgrounds, KATSEYE have established themselves in international markets while helping reshape the global pop landscape.
After achieving major milestones within just a year of their debut, the group continue to attract growing attention as the music industry and fans look ahead to their next chapter.
