Marvel has surprised fans by bringing back Rama-Tut, a variant of Kang the Conqueror, in X-Men ’97 Season 2. The move has revived speculation about whether Kang will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) before Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel has not confirmed any plans for Kang’s live-action return. However, Rama-Tut’s appearance has prompted fresh discussion about the character’s future in the Multiverse Saga.

The second season of X-Men ’97 follows Marvel’s recent success on Disney+ with Wonder Man and Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. The first three episodes premiered earlier this week and received praise from critics and audiences. Reports also said the new season debuted with a perfect 100 per cent rating after the first season earned 99 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Rama-Tut stands among the best-known variants of Kang in Marvel Comics. He rules as an ancient Egyptian pharaoh and holds a significant place in the character’s comic book history. His return has renewed interest in Kang after Marvel changed the direction of its Multiverse Saga.

Marvel had originally planned Kang as the saga’s central villain. The studio announced Avengers: The Kang Dynasty with the character expected to lead the story. Those plans changed after Marvel ended its association with actor Jonathan Majors following his legal issues. The studio later replaced The Kang Dynasty with Avengers: Doomsday and named Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., as the Multiverse Saga’s new main antagonist.

Rama-Tut’s return has also revived fan theories that Kang could still appear before the saga concludes. Despite the growing speculation, Marvel has not announced any role for Kang in Avengers: Doomsday. Industry reports have suggested that a Kang variant could appear in the film before Doctor Doom defeats him, shifting the spotlight to Marvel’s new principal villain.

A return for Kang would also present a major challenge for the studio. Marvel would need to recast the role or bring back Jonathan Majors while reconnecting the character to a storyline it had largely moved away from.

Marvel has not commented publicly on Kang’s reduced role in the Multiverse Saga. For now, Rama-Tut’s appearance in X-Men ’97 has kept Kang at the centre of fan discussion, although his live-action future remains uncertain.
