The Chhatra-Janata Sangram Parishad has called a half-day road and waterway blockade in Rangamati and Khagrachhari on Saturday in protest against alleged attacks, baton charges and vandalism during an earlier demonstration in Sajek.

The blockade will be enforced from 5am to noon, according to a statement issued on Thursday afternoon by the organisation’s President Ushatan Chakma.

The group said the programme was called in protest against attacks, baton charges and vandalism of houses and shops during an earlier peaceful road blockade demanding the removal of members of the Santu Larma-led Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) from Sajek in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila.

The organisation said the fresh blockade was also intended to support what it described as the legitimate demands of Sajek residents.

Chakma urged democratic and progressive organisations across the Chittagong Hill Tracts, along with transport owners’ and workers’ organisations in Rangamati and Khagrachhari, to cooperate in making the blockade successful.
