Popular singer Kanak Chapa may not be releasing new songs as frequently as before, but she continues to stay connected with fans through social media. However, she has expressed frustration over the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create and circulate altered images and videos of her.
In a lengthy Facebook post, the singer said many people are using AI to generate her photographs and even videos. According to her, some do it for amusement, while others use them for commercial purposes. She said the trend has left her feeling uncomfortable.
Kanak Chapa said that if she ever chooses to transform her own photographs or videos using AI, it would be her personal decision. She sees no reason for others to do so on her behalf. She also questioned whether people no longer appreciated her real appearance.
The singer also shared her views on AI technology. She said that no matter how advanced it becomes, it can never truly capture a person’s real identity or expression. Although AI may make images appear visually attractive, she believes they lose their natural qualities on closer inspection. She particularly noted that AI fails to reproduce the natural expression of human eyes.
Kanak Chapa said she already has countless photographs of herself and sees no need to alter them artificially. She is happy with her natural appearance and considers God’s creation to be the highest form of art.
She added that she has never felt uncomfortable or dissatisfied with the way she looks. For that reason, she believes others should not try to change her appearance either. While acknowledging that AI has many positive applications, she said many people in Bangladesh use it mainly for editing photographs.
The singer also issued a warning in the post. She said she might even consider leaving social media if the trend continues, as she does not feel comfortable seeing altered or distorted versions of herself online.
Kanak Chapa further revealed that she has never relied on beauty parlours, Botox, eyebrow plucking, artificial eyelashes or hair extensions to enhance her appearance. For the same reason, she does not wish to see distorted AI-generated images or videos of herself. She said she values her natural identity and personality above everything else.
