Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has said there is no legal obstacle to implementing the July Charter following the National Consensus Commission’s (NCC) decision.
He gave the opinion during a views-exchange session with local journalists at Johan Dream Valley Park in Jhenaidah on Friday.
According to the attorney general, the interim administration will decide on actions against officials who committed serious crimes during the Awami League’s tenure, taking into account the nature of their offences.
Responding to a query about the possibility of a neutral election under the current circumstances, Asaduzzaman said the Election Commission is responsible for the process and he is confident it will form a neutral administration before the polls.
He also remarked that when citizens feel unsafe under an authoritarian regime, they move to reshape the state. “People rise in protest and even lay down their lives for their country,” he added.
The discussion was chaired by Jhenaidah Press Club president Asif Kazal. District BNP president Advocate MA Majid, along with leaders of journalist organisations, were present at the event.
