Oscar-winning actor Julia Roberts is set to star in and produce a film adaptation of Katy Hays’ forthcoming novel ‘Home Economics’, after Sony’s 3000 Pictures acquired the rights in a competitive publishing auction.
Roberts will also produce the project alongside Lisa Roberts Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill through their Red Om Films banner, in collaboration with Marc Platt Productions, led by Marc Platt.
Author Katy Hays is attached to adapt her own novel for the screen and will serve as an executive producer. Details of the book’s synopsis and the film’s storyline are currently being kept under wraps.
The novel was acquired by Pamela Dorman Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House’s Viking, and is scheduled for publication in 2027. It has also been sold across 11 international territories.
Jake Bauman and Sony’s literary team played a key role in securing the project for 3000 Pictures, with Elizabeth Gabler and Aislinn Dunster overseeing development for the studio.
Roberts was most recently seen in the Amazon MGM Studios film ‘After the Hunt’ and is next set to appear in Panic Carefully for Warner Bros.
Katy Hays is the New York Times bestselling author of ‘The Cloister’ and ‘Saltwater’, with the latter also currently on the New York Times bestseller list.
