The Islami Chhatra Shibir at Jahangirnagar University held a “Freshers’ Reception and Career Guideline Program 2025” on Saturday at the Zahir Raihan Auditorium to welcome newly admitted students of the 2024–25 academic year (54th batch).
Around two thousand students attended the programme, where gift packages were distributed among the freshers.
The event was attended by the university’s Vice-Chancellor (Education) Mahfuzur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Sohel Ahmed, Proctor AKM Rashidul Alam, Shibir Central President Zahidul Islam, and Central Publication Secretary and DUCSU Vice President Abu Sadik Kayem.
Addressing the students, Abu Sadik Kayem said the sacrifices of revolutionaries paved the way for today’s new Bangladesh. “We must continue our struggle to bring the killers of Hasina to justice and to resist all forms of fascism,” he said.
Zahidul Islam Central President of Islami Chhatra Shibir said student politics in recent times had become corrupted. Referring to the “secret tag” label often used against his organisation, he said, “Spreading false narratives repeatedly is an old tactic used to mislead society. Our freshers’ reception is being held openly today. Since 5 August, we have been conducting activities publicly across various campuses.”
