The Jahangirnagar University (JU) administration has formed a five-member committee to investigate allegations of irregularities involving research papers published in various international journals and subsequently retracted by several university researchers.
According to an office order signed by Acting Registrar ABM Azizur Rahman, the committee is tasked with verifying the authenticity of the allegations, identifying the reasons behind the retractions, and reviewing the overall situation.
The probe body has been directed to submit a formal investigation report, including specific recommendations, within 30 working days.
Professor Mahbub Kabir, dean of the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, has been appointed as convener of the committee.
The other members of the committee include Professor Mohammad Zahidur Rahman from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Professor Md Salequl Islam from Department of Microbiology, and Associate Professor Mohammad Mamun Or Rashid from Department of Bangla.
Md Mahtab-Uz-Zahid, deputy registrar (general administration), will serve as the member secretary.
The decision to form the committee follows recent media reports highlighting the retraction of multiple research papers by JU researchers and the accompanying allegations of academic irregularities.
