Jnucsu polls result: Riazul leads VP race, Alim ahead for GS

Results from eight centres of the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (Jnucsu) election have placed Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed candidates in the lead for the top posts of vice president, general secretary and assistant general secretary.

The Jnucsu Election Commission began announcing the results around 7:30am on Wednesday. However, counting in the remaining centres is still underway and results will be announced gradually.

According to the declared results, vice-presidential candidate Riazul Islam of the Shibir-backed Adomya Jobian Oikya panel is leading with 810 votes.

His rival, AKM Rakib of the Oikyoboddho Nirbheek Jobian panel backed by Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Odhikar Parishad and general students has secured 805 votes.

In the general secretary race, Adomya Jobian Oikya candidate Abdul Alim Arif is ahead with 825 votes. His nearest contender, Khadijatul Kubra of the Oikyoboddho Nirbheek Jobian panel, has received 422 votes.

For the assistant general secretary post, Masud Rana of the Adomya Jobian Oikya panel is leading with 799 votes, while Atikur Rahman Tanzil of the rival panel has obtained 690 votes.

Voting for the Jnucsu and hall union elections took place on Tuesday at 178 booths across 39 centres.

So far, results have been announced for the departments of Geography and Environment, Public Administration, Anthropology, Pharmacy, Computer Science and Engineering, Genetic Engineering, Finance, and Microbiology.

Election commissioners Zulfikar Mahmud, Anisur Rahman and Kaniz Fatema Kakoli are announcing the results as counting progresses.
