Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal staged a protest march and rally on Sunday, accusing Islami Chhatra Shibir of staging “dramas” over disappearances and abductions, spreading misleading online propaganda, and involvement in crimes including violence against women.
The procession began in the afternoon from the university’s Transport Yard (Paribahan Chattar) and passed through various campus roads before concluding with a rally in front of the Central Shaheed Minar.
The programme was attended by senior leaders of the unit, including Convener Zahiruddin Muhammad Babar, Joint Convener Humayun Habib Hiron and Member Secretary Wasim Ahmed Onik, along with activists from different levels of the organisation.
At the rally, Joint Convener Humayun Habib Hiron alleged that an abduction narrative had been fabricated to protect a Shibir leader facing serious allegations of violence against women and foeticide. He also claimed that the organisation had a history of spreading confusing information regarding disappearance cases, urging students to remain vigilant.
Convener Zahiruddin Muhammad Babar said that while the mass uprising on 5 August had created scope for positive change and coexistence in student politics, continued propaganda by Shibir was undermining that environment.
He stressed the need for politics based on mutual respect and democratic values instead of misinformation and mudslinging.
