A Dhaka court on Saturday granted bail to Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Nasir Uddin Shawon in an extortion case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhajur Rahman issued bail order on the condition that the JCD leader would remain under the complainant’s custody.
Shawon, senior joint general secretary of Dhaka University unit of JCD, and several others were accused of kidnapping a businessman, assaulting him, and demanding ransom.
On Friday, police arrested a suspect, Mohammad Idris, in connection with the incident. Later, the victim, businessman Sheikh Naim Ahmed, filed a case against Shawon, Idris, and 8–10 unidentified individuals.
Naim, who owns travel agency “Tripzayan” in Panthapath area of the capital, alleged that he was abducted, physically assaulted, and threatened to give ransom while conducting business in Gulshan.
