The High Commission of Canada in Bangladesh has renewed its firm commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering girls, reaffirming the country’s global pledge to champion the rights, leadership, and voices of girls around the world.
Bangladesh, along with the rest of the world, is observing the International Day of the Girl Child on Saturday.
It is celebrated this year under the theme “The girl I am, the change I lead- Girls on the frontlines of crisis”- the Canadian High Commission highlighted that girls are not only enduring hardships but are also creating meaningful solutions amid uncertainty and crisis.
According to the statement, girls in Bangladesh and across the world are playing pivotal roles-from strengthening climate resilience in vulnerable communities to driving local innovation-while exhibiting exceptional courage and determination in overcoming social, economic, and environmental challenges.
The High Commission said, “Here in Bangladesh, Canada is committed to support girls’ leadership, ensuring safe spaces, accessible education, and the freedom to speak, act, and thrive, regardless of circumstances,”
The mission reaffirmed that empowering girls remains at the heart of Canada’s global development and human rights strategy, with initiatives focusing on education, health, climate action, and preventing gender-based violence.
It added that Canada stands with girls “today and every day,” honoring their aspirations, amplifying their voices, and recognizing their potential to drive transformative change in their communities and nations.
Canada has long been a key partner in Bangladesh’s efforts to promote gender equality-supporting programmes that enhance women’s economic participation, civic engagement, and leadership development for adolescent girls.
The International Day of the Girl Child serves as a global reminder to uphold girls’ rights and strengthen collective action to ensure every girl can achieve her full potential free from inequality, discrimination, and violence.
