Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of BNP, has warned that activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir will not be permitted to move freely on any campus if they continue to carry out attacks on JCD activists.
The announcement came during a protest march held at Dhaka University on Tuesday at 9:30pm. JCD activists marched through various areas of the campus before holding a rally at the foot of the Raju Memorial Sculpture.
During the procession, they chanted slogans such as “Jamaat-Shibir, Jamaat-Shibir — Gupto-Gupto” and “Jamaat-Shibirer astana, bhenge dao, guriye dao” (Break and demolish the hideouts of Jamaat-Shibir).
Addressing the rally, JCD Central Committee General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir issued a stern ultimatum.
“If you [Shibir] repeat such attacks on any campus in Bangladesh, if you show such audacity, not a single member of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal will allow you to move normally on campus,” he said.
Nasir alleged that Shibir activists have attacked JCD members in Chattogram multiple times since 5 August. He further accused Shibir of practicing the “politics of hypocrisy and terrorism,” citing recent incidents as evidence.
He vowed that JCD, alongside general students, would build a resistance against such “terrorist politics” and criticised Shibir’s past political role and the current positions of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders.
JCD Dhaka University Committee President Ganesh Chandra Roy Shahosh accused Shibir of creating “negative narratives” to incite chaos on campuses.
He said, “This is not Muhammad Yunus’ government; this is the government of Tarique Rahman, the architect of the 31-point programme in Bangladesh.”
The rally was presided over by Ganesh Chandra Roy Shahosh and moderated by Nahiduzzaman Shipon, General Secretary of Dhaka University JCD.
Other speakers included Shyamal Malum, senior joint general secretary of the Central Committee; Nure Alam Bhuiyan Emon, organising secretary of the DU committee; Nasir Uddin Shaon, senior joint general secretary; and Masum Billah, senior vice-president.
Activists from the JCD central, Dhaka University, Dhaka College, and Kabi Nazrul Islam College committees also attended the programme.
