Businessman Jasim Uddin has officially secured the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) nomination to run in the upcoming general election from the Chattogram-14 constituency.
The party confirmed his nomination on 28 December, with the seat comprising parts of Chattogram’s Chandanaish and Satkania areas.
The announcement has sparked excitement and enthusiasm among BNP leaders and workers. It is reported that BNP chose Jasim Uddin due to his clean image, strong reputation for social work, and widespread acceptance among the general public.
Local party leaders and workers have emphasised that Jasim Uddin has been dedicated to serving the people in the area since 2007, working alongside fellow leaders and workers.
Despite facing political adversity, he stayed committed to the people and did not flee due to the fear of the Awami League government.
Residents have praised Jasim Uddin for his vital contributions during challenging times, including flood relief and COVID-19 rehabilitation efforts. He provided financial support to the families of victims from the July movement and made donations to religious and educational institutions. Jasim Uddin has played a vital role in organizing the general public, party leaders, workers, and supporters through various social welfare and development activities.
For a long time, BNP leaders and workers have not held a favorable position in this seat. In recent years, the seat has primarily been contested by the LDP, led by Oli Ahmed.
