Japanese football legend Kazuyoshi Miura scored his first competitive goal in almost four years on Saturday as Fukushima United beat Iwaki Furukawa 7-0 in the Emperor’s Cup.
The goal came in the 52nd minute. Miura made a well timed run into the box and finished a low cross with his first touch to make it 5-0.
His teammates rushed to celebrate with him. The 59-year-old left the field three minutes later after being substituted.
It was Miura’s first competitive goal since November 2022. He last found the net while playing for Suzuka PG, now known as Atletico Suzuka, in a Japan Football League match against FC Osaka.
The former Japan international is preparing for his 42nd season as a professional footballer.
Miura extended his loan spell with Fukushima United until June 2027. He joined the club from Yokohama FC in December and has made six appearances during the shortened 2026 season.
Japanese football will soon change its calendar from a spring to autumn season to an autumn to spring format.
That change means Miura will continue playing professional football even after turning 60. His remarkable career remains one of the longest in the history of the sport.
