Bangladesh want results in the upcoming UAE tri-nation series, and Minhajul Abedin Nannu believes the Tigers must be ready for a challenging campaign against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.
However, Nannu was Bangladesh’s chief selector when the team won a tri-nation tournament involving West Indies and Ireland ahead of the 2019 ODI World Cup. He expects this campaign to be different, with the conditions in the UAE presenting an additional test for the Tigers.
“We want to play good cricket. At the end of the day, we want results. You have to think like that while playing,” the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) Age Group Committee chairman told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.
Nannu warned that the UAE heat and conditions would make the tournament challenging, requiring Bangladesh to prepare carefully for both opponents.
“As the series will commence in UAE, weather and condition plays a different role. From that perspective, the triangular series will be challenging,” he said.
Bangladesh will begin their campaign against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi on October 17 before facing Afghanistan in Sharjah on October 21. Each team will meet the other twice in the league stage, with the final scheduled for Sharjah on October 23.
Recent results against both opponents add to the challenge. Bangladesh lost 3-0 to Afghanistan in an ODI series in 2025 before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Zimbabwe in July 2026.
Nannu acknowledged the quality of both sides in white-ball cricket and said Bangladesh must plan accordingly if they want to turn good performances into results.
“Afghanistan are a pretty decent side in white-ball cricket, while Zimbabwe are also good enough. We have to proceed accordingly,” he said.
