A high-level meeting between the Japanese consortium and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism (MoCAT), scheduled for Monday, has been deferred due to the consortium’s incomplete preparation of its revised proposal.
The meeting was expected to play a crucial role in advancing discussions on the operation and maintenance framework of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), a key infrastructure project aimed at enhancing Bangladesh’s aviation capacity and service standards.
According to officials, the agenda included detailed negotiations on revised revenue-sharing mechanisms, upfront financial commitments, cargo-handling charges, and embarkation fees.
A senior MoCAT official said, the consortium has not fully prepared the revised proposal yet.
“However, the meeting will be held very soon,” he told TIMES of Bangladesh.
The postponed meeting was intended as a follow-up to discussions held on Friday, during which State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat urged the Japanese consortium to reconsider Bangladesh’s proposal and submit a revised offer.
The consortium, comprising Japan Airport Terminal Company, Sumitomo Corporation, Sojitz Corporation, and Narita International Airport Corporation, has been engaged in prolonged negotiations with Bangladeshi authorities over the terms of managing and operating the third terminal, with several key financial and operational aspects still under deliberation.
