The Supreme Court has suspended its activities for half a day to commemorate the death of veteran politician and former speaker Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar.
The announcement was made in a notice, signed by Supreme Court Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam, issued on Sunday.
The Chamber Judge’s Court of the Appellate Division will also remain closed throughout the day.
“The court activities have been halted to pay homage to Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar,” the notice said.
Meanwhile, Attorney General and Chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal expressed deep sorrow at the death of the former Speaker.
In a press release issued, he conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and highlighted Sircar’s significant contributions to the legal profession.
