BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that if a free and fair election is held in the country, the political existence of Jamaat-e-Islami will come to an end.

Speaking at a views-exchange meeting at the KK Bari Laxmirhat Govt High School in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila on Tuesday afternoon, Mirza Fakhrul accused Jamaat of exploiting religion for political gain.

“Jamaat gives people the illusion that voting for them guarantees a place in heaven. This is sheer hypocrisy. We must stay alert to such deceit,” he said.

Speaking about the National Citizen Party (NCP), he said, “There is no real presence of the NCP in Thakurgaon. That’s why they align themselves with Jamaat. They talk about PR, but the people don’t even understand what PR means. This confusion is being used as an excuse to delay elections. We will take responsibility for the issues we agree upon but not for others.”

Commenting on the recent statement made by the Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the BNP leader said, “For the past nine months, the adviser has been holding discussions with political parties under the name of reforms and has reached certain agreements. If the government now tries to impose anything by force beyond those understandings, the people of this country will not accept it.”

District BNP President Mirza Foysal Amin, General Secretary Poigam Ali, Thakurgaon Sadar unit BNP President Abdul Hamid, and other party leaders and activists were present at the event.
