The 11-party alliance, led by Jamaat-e-Islami, has announced a four-day nationwide protest programme demanding the implementation of the referendum results, following the parliament’s inaction.
The programme is scheduled to begin on 9 April and continue until 15 April.
The announcement came at a press conference at Al-Falah Hall in Mogbazar, after a meeting of alliance leaders at the Jamaat office.
Muhammad Mamunul Haque, ameer of the Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, accused the BNP of ignoring the interim government’s reform decisions and vowed that the alliance would continue street protests until the referendum verdict is fully enforced.
According to the alliance, the programme will begin on 9 April with leaflet distribution in Shahbagh.
On April 11, protest marches will be held at upazilas and thanas across the country, followed by rallies and demonstrations in all districts on 12 April.
A seminar supporting the referendum’s implementation will take place in Dhaka on 13 April.
Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad said the alliance decided to pursue continuous protests due to the parliament’s inaction.
Other leaders present at the press conference included Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Khilafat Majlis General Secretary Ahmad Abdul Quader, NCP Chief Organizer (North) Sarjis Alam, Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adib, AB Party General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad, JAGPA spokesperson Rashed Pradhan, and Bangladesh Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman (Iran), among others.
