The National Sports Council (NSC) has dissolved the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) led by Aminul Islam and appointed an 11-member ad hoc committee under former national captain Tamim Iqbal, following an investigation that uncovered widespread irregularities in the board’s last election.
At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Mohammad Aminul Ehsan, sports director of the NSC, formally announced the board’s dissolution.
The five-member investigation committee was formed last month with the approval of Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haq, tasked with examining allegations of irregularities and manipulation in the BCB election. Led by retired Supreme Court Justice A.K.M. Asaduzzaman, the committee submitted its final report on Sunday, 5 April 2026. The NSC acted swiftly, moving to dissolve the board just two days later.
Alongside dissolving the existing board on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, the NSC announced the formation of an 11-member ad hoc committee to oversee Bangladesh cricket during the interim period. Tamim Iqbal has been named as its head, with the proposed committee’s details already submitted to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for approval.
The tenure of the ad hoc committee will be three months, during which a fresh election will be held.
After the controversial election in October, the BCB had begun its journey with a 25-member board of directors, but it was already in a fragile state. Only 17 directors remained in the current board. Within six months of taking office, questions over transparency and fears of dissolution led seven directors to resign, citing personal reasons. With the NSC’s intervention, the entire board has now been dissolved.
