The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is entering a new phase as the first meeting of the newly formed ad hoc committee, chaired by former national captain Tamim Iqbal, is set to take place this evening at the BCB headquarters in Mirpur.
The meeting, scheduled for 6:30 pm, will mark the official start of the committee’s work, with key decisions expected on the allocation of departmental responsibilities. Sources suggest that today’s session will lay the groundwork for the board’s daily operations and preparations for a transparent future election.
Earlier on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, the National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the existing BCB board led by Aminul Islam Bulbul, citing concerns over transparency and ongoing administrative instability. The NSC immediately formed an 11-member ad hoc committee, appointing Tamim Iqbal as chairman to steer the board through the interim period.
Tamim, who previously withdrew his nomination as a councillor for Old DOHS in the 2025 BCB election over transparency concerns, returns in a leadership role six months later, taking on the responsibility of guiding the national cricket administration.
While the ad hoc committee’s primary task is managing day-to-day operations and creating a fair environment for future elections, questions remain over whether committee members, including Tamim, will be eligible to contest upcoming BCB polls. NSC Director (Sports) Aminul Ehsan noted, “Legally, we need to examine what the law actually says.”
Constitutional experts have indicated that the BCB’s existing constitution does not prevent members of an ad hoc committee from running in future elections, although Tamim would need to resign from his current post before any election schedule is announced.
