Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has strongly condemned the filing of a case against Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and a participant in the July Movement, describing the move as “deeply concerning and unjust.”
In a statement issued on Monday, Advocate Matiur Rahman Akanda, member of Jamaat’s Central Executive Committee and secretary of its Central Publicity and Media Division, voiced strong protest over the matter.
“We are observing with deep concern that a leader of a political party has filed a case against July fighter and NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary,” the statement said.
The Jamaat leader added that Patwary had earned the nation’s respect for his leading role in the anti-autocracy movement, saying, “We are deeply concerned about this case against someone who contributed to freeing the country from despotic rule. We strongly condemn and protest this action.”
Earlier, a Jubo Dal leader Kazi Mukituzzaman has filed a defamation case against NCP leader Nasiruddin Patwary for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Dhaka South Jubo Dal Member Secretary Rabiul Islam Nayon.
The case was filed on Monday with the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Zakir Hossain.
After receiving the complaint, the court directed the Detective Branch (DB) of police to investigate the matter and submit a report.
