Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Friday addressed aspiring members of the party, stressing integrity, social justice, and student responsibility.

Speaking at the central members’ convention of the Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir held at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center (BCFCC), he delivered a strong message to those seeking to join the organisation.

Shafiqur Rahman said, “Those who join us cannot engage in corruption. They must respect the judiciary and cannot obstruct reforms.”

He highlighted the importance of ethical conduct, civic responsibility, and dedication to societal welfare, urging members to commit themselves to the party’s principles while serving the nation.

The convention drew participation from party leaders, senior Chhatrashibir members, and young aspirants from across the country, reflecting the organisation’s focus on cultivating principled leadership among students.

Highlighting the country’s historical struggles, he said, “We waited decades, from ’47 to ’24, and many sacrificed their lives. We owe them a debt.”

“In the past, educational institutions were like mini cantonments. Students’ pens were replaced by weapons. That dark era has ended, but a shadow still remains. Students must play their role to eradicate it” he added.

He stressed the importance of student leadership, stating that the Islami Chhatra Shibir is now more than a student organisation.

“The trust and mandate given by the post-1971 revolution student community make the Chhatrashibir the guardian of youth responsibility. The task of restoring character-building, moral education, modern knowledge, and research in schools and universities falls on our shoulders,” he said.

Shafiqur Rahman urged the student body to ensure safety and respect in educational institutions.

“We do not want any teacher humiliated or any campus to become a hub of terror. Those responsible for past wrongdoings have been condemned. The student community will not tolerate repetition,” he added.

On social issues, he rejected welfare dependency, saying, “Some want to provide unemployment allowances. We prefer to deliver the message of revolution. We want a Bangladesh where every youth is skilled, productive, and contributes to national development.”

He emphasised a system where education fosters capable, ethical, and self-reliant citizens.

He concluded with three guiding principles for all Jamaat and allied supporters: corruption must not be tolerated, equal justice must prevail in all aspects of society without political interference, and reforms sought by the people must be implemented.

“We seek a united Bangladesh, with participation from all religions, parties, and communities,” Shafiqur said.

Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said that attempts to hinder the Chhatrashibir through false accusations or propaganda will fail.

“The student movement cannot be stopped by lies, false labels, or intimidation,” he added.

Shafiqur Rahman also reminded students of their historical responsibilities. “You carry the legacy of countless martyrs. May Allah grant you the strength to uphold it. True peace is not in this world; it lies in the Hereafter,” he mentioned.
