Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafique Rahman has pledged to uphold the dignity of martyrs’ families, calling them the “crown” of the nation and demanding swift justice for those who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Speaking to the media on Saturday morning after visiting the grave of martyr Abu Sayeed in Babnapur, Pirganj, Shafiqur Rahman emphasised that this commitment was not just words but a heartfelt pledge.

“The greatest privilege for the families of martyrs is that we will keep them as the crown on our heads. This is not just a statement, but a matter of our heart,” he said.

Shafiqur, who is also the Ameer of Rajshahi Metropolitan Jamaat, stressed that his party remained firmly committed to the values for which martyrs like Abu Sayeed laid down their lives.

“Just as Abu Sayeed and others sacrificed their lives for the honour of the country, we too are ready to give our lives, but we will never compromise on even an inch of our land,” he declared.

Addressing the people of Pirganj, he added, “We are here today to meet the family of martyr Abu Sayeed, to share in the emotions of those who continue to carry the burden of their sacrifice. The responsibility that Abu Sayeed and his companions left on our shoulders, we will carry forward with our lives.”

Shafiqur Rahman also reflected on the vision of the martyrs, who aspired to create a Bangladesh free of corruption, terrorism, and fascism-where people of all faiths could live peacefully and contribute to the nation.

“The martyrs took to the streets under the slogan ‘We want justice.’ We are committed to fulfilling that call for justice,” he added.

He further commented on the political situation following the events of 5 August, saying, “We have no personal agenda. Since that date, we have refrained from engaging in extortion, land grabbing, or corruption. We hold no personal grudges. Our focus is on uniting the nation and ending division.”

On the upcoming elections, the Jamaat Ameer revealed that a coalition of 10 political parties had united to field candidates in all 300 constituencies. He called on the youth to remain vigilant and ensure the integrity of the election process. “The youth must act as guardians of the vote to ensure that no one manipulates the election outcome,” he urged.

Earlier in the day, Shafiqur Rahman paid his respects at the grave of Abu Sayeed, accompanied by his father Makbul Hossain, NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain and other local and central leaders.

The visit marked the beginning of his third day of election campaigning.

On 23 January, he held public rallies in Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, and Rangpur. He is scheduled to visit Gaibandha, Sirajganj, and Pabna for more rallies before returning to Dhaka.
