Jamaat-e-Islami has adopted a seven-point set of proposals, including implementation of a referendum verdict, control of commodity prices, and holding of local government elections, at a meeting of its central Majlis-e-Shura.
The decisions were taken at a day-long meeting held on Friday at the Al-Falah Auditorium in the capital’s Moghbazar area, the party said in a statement.
According to the statement, the meeting reviewed the country’s prevailing political and economic situation, deterioration in law and order, reported border killings and alleged “push-in” incidents by India’s Border Security Force (BSF), rising prices of essential commodities, politicisation of the administration, and issues related to the judiciary.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, also an opposition leader, and Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar, along with other senior leaders, were present at the meeting.
The proposals include swift implementation of the referendum result, effective measures to bring down the prices of daily essentials, timely holding of local government elections, intensified diplomatic efforts to stop border killings, ensuring neutrality in the administration, and safeguarding the independence of the judiciary.
The party said the proposals were adopted unanimously in a bid to ensure political stability, meet public expectations, and establish a justice-based society.
