A new Eid-themed short film by filmmaker Jahid Preetom explores how the meaning of home is evolving for a younger generation increasingly tied to urban life and friendships.
Titled ‘Home Not Coming’, the three-and-a-half-minute film centres on a young man named Azim, who feels reluctant to return to his village for Eid celebrations with his family. Instead, he would rather remain in the city with his close friends, whose companionship has become central to his everyday life.
Although Azim ultimately travels to his village to observe the festival with his parents, his sense of belonging remains divided. Throughout his visit, he shares glimpses of village life on social media, unintentionally prompting his friends to make a spontaneous decision. Wanting to celebrate Eid together after all, they set out to join him in the village.
Through this simple narrative, the film reflects on shifting ideas of home, suggesting that emotional ties and friendships can sometimes feel just as significant as family traditions.
The short features performances by Meraz Hasan Raian, Arpita Paul, Mahadi Rahman, Moshiur Siam, and Maynul Islam Shuvo, among others. It has already been released across several social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube and TikTok.
Speaking about the project, director Jahid Preetom said the production process felt nostalgic, reminding the team of their own teenage years. He added that the cast developed genuine friendships during filming, which helped bring a sense of authenticity to the story.
Home Not Coming has been produced with the support of telecommunications provider Airtel.
