US President Donald Trump has suggested the conflict with Iran could conclude “pretty quickly,” while emphasising that Washington seeks an “ultimate victory.”
In an interview with CBS News, Trump said the US military campaign is “ahead of schedule” and described the war as “very complete, pretty much.”
Still, he acknowledged that the US has “not won enough yet,” signaling that operations may continue until a decisive outcome is secured.
Meanwhile, Israel confirmed it carried out a second wave of airstrikes on Tehran on Monday, further escalating regional tensions. Several neighboring countries including Turkey, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar reported intercepting Iranian missiles, while Israeli authorities said additional attacks had been detected.
The conflict is also fueling global economic concerns. UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves warned that unrest in the Middle East could drive inflation higher, following discussions at a G7 finance ministers’ meeting.
Oil markets reacted sharply, with benchmark crude prices climbing above $100 a barrel for the first time since 2022.
Adding to security worries, UK Defence Secretary John Healey said a drone strike on a British base in Cyprus last week likely originated from Lebanon or Iraq, underscoring the widening risks linked to the conflict.
