Leaders and supporters of Inqilab Moncho once again blocked Shahbag intersection in the capital, demanding the arrest and speedy trial of those involved in the killing of its spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
They began the blockade at around 2pm on Monday, bringing traffic on the busy road to a halt and triggering severe congestion in the surrounding areas.
A day earlier, on Sunday night, the platform withdrew from Shahbag after announcing four demands. That programme marked the third consecutive day of their protests.
Inqilab Moncho reiterated its four-point demand during the renewed blockade.
The platform demanded that all those directly involved in the killing, or those who aided it, be brought to trial within the next 24 days.
It also called for the cancellation of work permits of Indian nationals working in Bangladesh.
The group further demanded the repatriation of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and others accused of enforced disappearances and killings who have taken refuge in India.
They added, government should move to international courts if India continues to provide them shelter.
In addition, the platform called for the dismissal of law enforcement officials accused of spreading misinformation, as well as Awami League leaders and activists who remain in hiding.
Sharif Osman Hadi was shot on 12 December on Box Culvert Road in the capital’s Bijoynagar area. Assailants fired at him from a moving motorcycle.
Doctors first treated him at Dhaka Medical College Hospital before shifting him to a private hospital in Bashundhara. On 15 December, he was flown to Singapore for advanced treatment.
Hadi died there on the night of 18 December while undergoing treatment.
