The club broke the news bluntly. “Ayush Mhatre has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a left hamstring injury sustained while batting during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. We wish Ayush a speedy recovery.”
The 18-year-old batter attacked from ball one, racking up runs at a strike rate touching 178. He smashed two half-centuries and dragged Chennai through shaky starts, often setting the tone when others hesitated.
Now that aggression disappears overnight. The injury itself told a grim story. Mhatre pulled up while chasing a second run, clutching his left hamstring and calling for treatment more than once before finally walking off with support staff beside him.
