Local administration has busted an illegal topsoil extraction operation in Singair upazila of Manikganj. Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Habel Uddin led the drive, which took place from Thursday 8pm until 2:30am.
During the raid, a person named Dalim was fined Tk4 lakh for alleged involvement in the illegal operation.
Local sources say, a syndicate of soil traders had been using the cover of darkness to mine topsoil. In response, the authorities carried out raids in various locations across Baldhara, Bayra, and Sayesta unions of Singair Upazila.
During the drive, such illegal operations were halted at four sites, and three excavators used for the work were rendered inoperable.
The drive was supported by the police, Gram Police (village police), officials and employees of the land office, and conscious local citizens. Executive Magistrate Md Habel Uddin said such raids against soil mining and other illegal activities will continue in the coming days.
