International Cricket Council (ICC) fined Nahida Akter and Sharmin Sultana 10% of their match fees after separate Level 1 breaches during the second ODI between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Nahida breached Article 2.5, which covers actions or gestures that could provoke a batter after dismissal. She directed a send-off towards Chamari Athapaththu after taking her wicket, pointing towards the pavilion.
Sharmin breached Article 2.8, which relates to dissent at an umpire’s decision. She reacted to an LBW decision by pointing to her bat and delaying her departure, which the ICC classified as excessive disagreement.
Both players received one demerit point each, marking their first offences within a 24-month period. Level 1 breaches allow penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a 50 per cent fine, alongside one or two demerit points.
On-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Rokeya Sultana, third umpire Dolly Rani Sarkar, and fourth umpire Shathira Jakir Jesy reported the incidents. Match referee Supriya Rani Das imposed the sanctions after both players admitted the charges.
Sri Lanka levelled the three-match series with a win in the second ODI, which increased tension during the contest and led to the reported incidents.
