RAB arrested a local Jubo Dal leader in connection with the murder of Woman Union Parishad member Piyara Khatun, 45, in Shahjadpur Upazila of Sirajganj.
Abdul Alim, former general secretary of Habibullah Nagar Union Jubo Dal, was arrested early Wednesday from Harinchora Bazar under Solonga Police Station, RAB-12 confirmed in a press release.
Piyara Khatun was the reserved-seat member for wards 1, 2 and 3 of Habibullah Nagar Union and the wife of Abdul Alim.
According to local sources, Piyara divorced her first husband a year ago and married Alim. Since then, the couple had reportedly been in dispute.
On the night of 27 November, Alim allegedly strangled his wife to death during a quarrel and fled, leaving the body inside their house. Police recovered her body the next afternoon and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue.
Piyara’s father, Hanif Sarker, later filed a case, in which RAB arrested Alim as the prime suspect.
