Lionel Messi has confirmed that he will visit India this December on a personal trip. However, the Argentina national team’s planned visit to the country for a friendly match is now uncertain.
Argentina are currently touring the United States for FIFA international friendlies. They have already played against Venezuela and are scheduled to face Puerto Rico on Wednesday.
Following the US tour, there will be little rest for Messi and his teammates. In November, Argentina are due to play two more friendlies. The first is set to be against Angola, while the second was initially scheduled to take place in India.
However, according to a report from TyC Sports, the venue for the India fixture may be changed. If the tour does not go ahead, the match could be moved to Africa, where Argentina may play against Morocco instead.
Argentina last played in India in 2011. After more than a decade of waiting, fans were hopeful for the team’s return, although that now appears to be in doubt.
