Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has responded to the viral “We need to apologise to Hrithik Roshan” trend on social media, which gained attention amid criticism of actor-politician Kangana Ranaut over her recent remarks on a student-led movement, reports Hindustan Times.
The trend resurfaced after Kangana referred to Gen Z protesters and young women as “Generation Gutter” while criticising the language used by some demonstrators.
Influencer Freddy Birdy shared a post on Instagram stating, “The world owes an apology to Hrithik Roshan.”
Hrithik responded to the post, saying people should focus on facts rather than taking sides based on personal opinions.
“My friend, siding with ‘A’ just cause you don’t like ‘B’ anymore is a small part of the larger systemic issue plaguing our society. I’ll wait, for when the context to it is the right one, and motivated by facts. That would be fair. But then again, who cares anymore right?” Hrithik wrote.
The online trend refers to the highly publicised legal dispute between Hrithik and Kangana in 2016.
The conversation began after CJP leader Saurav Das responded to Kangana’s criticism of him.
Kangana had questioned Das’ identity as a student, compared his achievements with her own career milestones and called him “useless”.
Speaking to journalist Barkha Dutt on The Mojo Story, Das said his friends joked that he resembled a young Hrithik Roshan.
His comment sparked the online trend, with many social media users revisiting the actor’s past dispute with Kangana.
In 2016, Kangana referred to Hrithik as a “silly ex” during an interview, suggesting that the two had been in a relationship while working on Krrish 3.
Hrithik denied the claim and sent her a legal notice demanding an apology, alleging that the statement harmed his reputation.
Kangana rejected the demand and issued a counter-notice.
In 2017, the cybercrime cell reportedly filed a closure report after the investigation did not find conclusive evidence supporting the allegations.
