Corporate governance professional Hossain Sadat joined the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) as a commissioner on Tuesday, completing the regulator’s leadership team as it pursues reforms to strengthen oversight, modernise the capital market and rebuild investor confidence.
According to a BSEC press release, the Financial Institutions Division under the Ministry of Finance appointed Sadat for a four-year term under the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission Act, 1993.
The appointment was approved by the government, notified on Monday and took effect on Tuesday.
The appointment fills the commission’s final vacant post, giving BSEC a full complement of commissioners as it implements measures to improve market governance, enhance regulatory effectiveness and broaden investor participation.
A fellow chartered secretary, Sadat brings nearly three decades of experience in corporate governance, regulatory strategy, financial management, sustainability and corporate communications across the telecommunications, oil and gas and audit sectors.
He most recently served as president of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh.
Earlier, he held senior leadership positions at Grameenphone, Shell Oil and Gas, Cairn Energy and Rahman Rahman Huq, the Bangladesh member firm of KPMG.
He has also served on the boards and councils of the Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market, the Corporate Secretaries International Association and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh, and completed executive education in management at London Business School.
BSEC said Sadat’s experience in capital markets, corporate governance and regulation would strengthen the commission’s institutional capacity and support efforts to build a more transparent, efficient and resilient securities market.
