Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain on Saturday conducted a surprise inspection of Habiganj 250-bed District Sadar Hospital and ordered immediate transfer of a pharmacist found absent from duty.
The pharmacist, identified as Regan Hossain, was summarily transferred after being found absent during the minister’s visit at around 12:30pm. During the inspection, the minister toured several departments of the hospital, including surgery and outpatient units.
He enquired about patient healthcare services, the attendance of doctors and health workers, and overall hospital operations.
Sakhawat expressed strong dissatisfaction with the cleanliness of the hospital, mentioning that hygiene standards at Habiganj Sadar Hospital were poorer compared to other district hospitals in the country.
He directed the relevant authorities to be more responsible in performing their duties. Speaking during the visit, the health minister announced that a nationwide measles vaccination campaign will be conducted in three weeks.
He stressed the importance of bringing children under the vaccination coverage and urged parents, especially mothers, to be more aware of the immunisation process.
He also emphasised the necessity of ensuring that newborn babies are fed colostrum (shal dudh), adding that parents must remain vigilant regarding their children’s complete vaccination.
During the inspection, the minister was accompanied by Habiganj Deputy Commissioner Dr GM Sarfaraz, Zilla Parishad Administrator Ahmed Ali Mukib, and Superintendent of the 250-bed District Sadar Hospital, Dr Aminul Haq Sarkar, among others.
