A truck driver was killed and another man injured in a head-on collision between two trucks on the Jhenaidah–Kushtia highway in Jhenaidah town on Tuesday night.
Police said the crash occurred around 8:45pm in the Markas Mosque area.
The victim was identified as Robiul Islam, 55, son of the late Bajlur Rahman of Shablat village in Shalikha upazila of Magura. The injured helper, Abu Bakar, 60, is the son of the late Jobed Ali Molla from the same village.
Jhenaidah Arappur Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Mrityunjay Biswas said a truck carrying sand from Panchagarh was heading towards Jashore when it reached the Markaz Mosque area and collided head-on with another truck transporting straw from Magura. The straw-laden truck’s driver, Robiul, was critically injured.
Fire Service personnel rescued him from the scene and took him to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Hamidur Rahman Belal, a doctor at the hospital’s emergency department, said Robiul had died before reaching the facility.
