The High Court has directed the formation of an investigation committee, led by Science and Technology Secretary Md Anwar Hossain, to probe allegations of recruitment irregularities involving six officials at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) project.
The court has granted the committee eight weeks to conduct the investigation and submit its findings. The court issued a rule seeking an explanation as to why the failure of relevant officials to investigate these allegations should not be declared illegal.
A High Court bench, comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar, passed the order on Sunday, following a preliminary hearing on a writ petition. The petition was filed in public interest by Supreme Court lawyer Sakina Begum.
Advocate Masud Ahmed Sayeed Shibly, representing the petitioner, informed journalists that the officials in question – Miraj Al Mamun, Rabiul Alam, Al Mamun, AKM Nazmul Hasan, Mushfika Ahmed, and Abu Kaiser – were appointed in Rooppur plant based on government recruitment circulars issued in 2019 and 2023.
According to the allegations, the appointed individuals lacked the necessary work experience for their roles. The lawyer further stated that the recruitment was conducted through an opaque process that requires investigation into potential corruption and irregularities.
