Bangladesh were bowled out for 426 shortly after lunch on the third day, with Josh Hazlewood completing a six-wicket haul to bring Australia back into the contest.
Hazlewood had already removed Hasan Mahmud earlier in the morning and returned after the interval to dismiss Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Miraz, who had held Bangladesh’s innings together with a patient 65 from 154 balls, edged an attempted drive outside off stump through to the wicketkeeper.
His dismissal left Bangladesh with little resistance. Ebadot Hossain added a six before becoming Hazlewood’s sixth victim, but Bangladesh still secured a first-innings lead of 228 after being dismissed for 426.
Hazlewood finished with 6 for 89, while Mitchell Starc took two wickets. Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon claimed one each.
Bangladesh had started the Test strongly after Hasan Mahmud’s six-wicket haul restricted Australia to 198 in their first innings. Their batters then built a sizeable advantage, led by Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s century in only his second Test. Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 84 from 126 balls, while Mominul Haque made 49.
Tanzid’s century was particularly notable as he became the first Bangladesh batter to score a Test hundred in Australia. Bangladesh’s 426 gave them a 228-run lead and left Australia facing a significant challenge in their second innings.
