Speculation continues around former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan and his potential return to the national side, with ODI captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz emphasising the impact a player of Shakib’s calibre can have on the team’s balance and leadership.
Miraz explained that having Shakib in the squad would simplify his responsibilities as captain. “The decision about Shakib coming back is entirely with the cricket board. In my view, if this issue is resolved, it will make things easier for him. As a captain, having a player like him in the squad would make my job much simpler,” he said.
He further added, “Everyone has a positive view regarding Shakib. If the processes are handled properly, things will become smoother. We are all aware of the Shakib situation. His presence helps with team combinations and overall strategy. Since discussions are ongoing with the board, the final decision rests with them.”
Reflecting on Bangladesh’s recent ODI campaign, Miraz highlighted the challenges caused by irregular fixtures. “We have played ODIs with large gaps in between. During that time, our focus was mostly on T20 cricket, which affected our ODI preparation,” he noted.
He confirmed that with more ODIs on the horizon, the team will adopt a structured plan. “This is just the beginning. With the BCL now concluded, we will sit down and plan for the upcoming series, analysing how we can perform consistently and aim to win our matches,” Miraz added.
