Abahani Limited launched their domestic campaign with a 5-1 win over Dhaka Wanderers at Chandpur District Stadium on Saturday, securing their first victory of the season after a slow start in the Bangladesh Football League and Federation Cup.

Maruful Haque’s side needed only four minutes to open the scoring. Nigerian forward Anthony Okachi finished a pass from Pakistani forward Md. Moin Ahmed.

Moin then doubled Abahani’s lead two minutes later with a crisp finish. Dhaka Wanderers reduced the deficit in the 14th minute when Jahid Hossain found the net.

Abahani restored their two-goal advantage in the 34th minute. Nigerian World Cup veteran Michael Babatunde converted a penalty to put the Sky Blues 3-1 ahead at half-time.

Abahani continued to control the match after the interval. Okachi completed his brace in the 75th minute before substitute Al-Amin added a fifth goal in the second minute of stoppage time.

The victory moved Abahani to four points after two rounds.

Mohammad Ibrahim and Essa Jallow scored for Fortis to erase a two-goal deficit. City Club then restored their lead before Japanese midfielder Noriki Akada rescued Fortis with a late equaliser.

Arambagh KS and Rahmatganj MFS also shared the points after a 2-2 draw at Gopalganj Old Stadium.

Rayies Suraj gave Arambagh the lead from the penalty spot in the 13th minute. Ibrahima Sene equalised in the 25th minute before putting Rahmatganj ahead after half-time.

Mohammad Rocky then scored to secure a point for Arambagh.

After two rounds, Bangladesh Police FC lead the League table with six points. Abahani Limited, Fortis FC and City Club each have four points.
