Reacting immediately to the verdict, Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur said, “The International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death in the crimes against humanity case for their responsibility in the genocide committed in July-August. The Ganadhikar Parishad welcomes this verdict and simultaneously we demand that the accused be brought back and this verdict be executed swiftly.”
Nur made the remark at a press conference at the Gono Odhikar Parishad party office at 6pm on Monday,
He went on to add, “This verdict can be called an initial victory; the final victory will not be achieved until the verdict is executed. Not only Sheikh Hasina or Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, but all Awami League leaders who are fugitives in India and their collaborators must also be brought back and held accountable.”
Nurul Haque Nur also demanded for a permanent ban on “collaborators” Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance. He alleged that, without the ban, everyone responsible for the July Uprising would be hanged.
“Everyone must remain united on the issue of the fascist Awami League and their collaborators,” he said.
