Hollywood legend Harrison Ford was honoured with the SAG-AFTRA Lifetime Achievement Award at Sunday night’s Actor Awards, celebrating a career spanning six decades. Ford, known for iconic roles from Han Solo in ‘Star Wars’ to Indiana Jones and Rick Deckard in ‘Blade Runner’, fought back tears as he addressed the audience.
Presented by Woody Harrelson, Ford reflected on his journey, noting he still considers himself “a working actor” despite the accolade. “It’s a little early, isn’t it? I’m still at the half point of my career,” he joked. He credited directors Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and longtime manager Patricia McQueeney for their support during his early struggles.
Ford shared how acting gave him purpose and community. “Through acting, I found my people… We get to live many lives, explore ideas and create emotional connections,” he said. He also highlighted the responsibility success brings: “To lift others up when we can, to keep the door open for the next kid looking for a place to belong.”
Ford, 80, is the 61st recipient of the prestigious award, joining a roster of past honourees including Sidney Poitier, Jane Fonda, and Robert De Niro.
Despite decades of success, Ford remains active, recently earning his first Emmy nomination for Apple TV’s ‘Shrinking’.
