Habibur Rahman Sohan produced a record-breaking innings on Monday in the Dhaka Premier League, scoring the fastest List A century by a Bangladeshi batter. The Legends of Rupganj opener reached three figures in just 45 balls and broke the previous national record.
Sohan dominated from the start. He attacked the bowlers during the powerplay, found boundaries regularly and forced the opposition onto the defensive.
The opener raced to his century with a mix of clean hitting and aggressive strokeplay. He kept the scoring rate above two runs per ball and never allowed the bowlers to settle.
Sohan eventually fell for 130 from only 58 deliveries. His innings featured eight fours and 13 sixes. He finished with a strike rate of 224.14.
By the time he left the crease, Legends of Rupganj had already piled up 174 runs in 17 overs. His innings laid the platform for a commanding total and left the opposition chasing the game.
The knock ended when Enamul Hoque Ashiq took the catch off the bowling of Abdullah Al Mamun.
The century now stands as the quickest List A hundred by a Bangladeshi batter. It also ranks among the most destructive innings seen in the history of the Dhaka Premier League.
Bangladesh cricket has produced several explosive domestic batting displays over the years. Sohan’s 45-ball hundred now sits at the top of that list and gives the Rupganj opener a place in the country’s record books.
